At just 17 , Malala Yousafzai becomes the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize, and shares the honour this year with children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi. Good news for girls and young women everywhere, as they are both sure to use this spotlight on their work to good avail to raise awareness of girl’s rights to education and campaigning against slavery and child labour. This is a great conversation piece for any youth group session. You could facilitate a discussion about who Malala is, what are girl’s rights in different countries, do we have equal rights to education in the UK, what can we do to help raise awareness of every girl’s right to education? More about Malala’s Nobel Prize here, and how she heard about the award coming out of her Chemistry class!
