Easter Saturday 3rd April – nexus art cafe
Come join artist in residence Fiona Meakin in her Nexus-based hidey hole for an afternoon of felting, story telling and discussion on the subject of HAIR on Saturday 3rd April 1pm-3pm.
As part of her Hirsute/Hersuit project, Fiona is interested in women’s relationship with their own body image and how hair plays a key role in this. As well as a good old school story telling, points for discussion include…
Hirsute v Hairless
Cycle of hair growth and cutting
The discussion group will revolve around the ritual of felt making. Participants are encouraged to bring a lock of their own hair (cut if you like, but if not, your hairbrushes and bathplugs can be a valuable resource…), which will be worked into a larger piece of fabric as the encounter progresses. The resulting fabric will be divided between participants, a very real and tactile memento of a strange and intimate encounter…
